MAY FUN-MOTHER'S DAY & MEMORIAL DAY

MAY FUN-MOTHERS DAY AND MEMORIAL DAY

Every year when the month of May rolls around, I can’t help but feel the excitement in the air…Growing up in a beach community (you could see the ocean from my high school campus) May means summer is just a few weeks away…which means nothing but surf and sand, reggae music, and FUN!

The weather is pleasantly warm, and the strand gets packed on the weekends. What better time to really kick up your fitness routine a notch! Time for sundresses, tank tops, board shorts and bikinis! It does not matter if you are poolside, or beach bound, everyone wants to look their best!

PLEASE USE SUNSCREEN!! Skin cancer is not attractive, and neither is looking like a handbag. There are many self tanners out there that look fantastic; my favorite so far is Jantana. You can see her amazing products at www.jantana.com

MOTHERS DAY

Mother’s day falls on the 13th of May this year. A fantastic way to show your mom that you love her, is to get fit with her!

Why not become a client of Rising Star Fitness with your mom? Training together is a wonderful way to bond and encourage each other.

For the mom’s out there, it is ALWAYS soooooo nice to hear someone ask your daughter, as you stand next to her; “is that your sister?”

And I must say…to be the daughter of a “hot mom” is so very cool. J

So this Mothers day, start a fitness program with your mom! It is such a nice way to say I love you, and that I want you to be around, for many more years to come.

Another fantastic idea would be to form a Mother/Daughter (or son!) fitness club. Why not get a group of mom’s and kids together to have some fitness fun? To find out more information on how to start, just contact me at Amy@risingstarfitness.com.

This Mother’s day, also plan a fantastic healthy brunch for your mother! Check our recipe section for our Mother’s day Brunch menu.

MEMORIAL DAY-doesn’t have to be a “weighty” issue.

Memorial Day, much like the 4th of July, is a time for BBQ’s and parties. It is a time to give thanks to our men and women in uniform!

This year, on Memorial Day, instead of giving yourself clogged arteries, with a side of diabetes, think healthy and yummy!

I have made meal planning easy for you. Check our recipe section for our Memorial Day celebration BBQ.

ALSO….instead of sitting on your booty at your family gathering, plan a volleyball, ultimate Frisbee, or badminton tournament! Get everyone involved! Give out prizes! Heck, why not get your whole block involved! Every year, in my home town, on the street where I grew up, they have a Memorial Day block party. Each year the festivites have grown in size, to the point where the fire department shows up, to show kids the fire engines, and news crews come to film the festivities!

This year why not start one of your own, with sports and active games as the main focus! Serve healthy food instead of fatty calorie laden junk. Have fun and be safe.

As stated before, check our recipe section for BBQ ideas.

Stay tuned for more blog entries, and recipes!

Thank you for visiting Rising Star fitness!

THE IMPORTANCE OF VACATION

ALOHA!!

I can not express enough, how absolutely important vacation is.

It is a time to relax, reflect, regroup, and have a GREAT TIME!!

Juggling schedules, work deadlines, traffic, bad attitudes...all of these things can really stress your body and mind. When you take time out from “the world”, and relax, you can literally heal yourself of all your woes…you can find yourself.

I just came back from a week in Hawaii, and that is exactly what I did! All of my cares just melted away, I did not care what time it was, I smiled and laughed a lot. I did nothing but have fun, and focus on my family…And a whole lot of tropical fish!

And did I mention that Vacation is a time for new experiences?? For the first time I snorkeled with my husband. We have been married 12 years, and I had never visited the underwater world that he loves so much. My husband scuba dives, and has spent many hours in the water, is a fantastic swimmer, and knows what to do, so I felt completely at ease. He even encouraged a school of tropical fish to swim all around us! It was just amazing.  It was all so calming, and so beautiful. My next goal is to scuba dive!

Our resort where we spent our week was amazing. It was the only place on the island where you could watch both the sunrise and sunset! Every morning at dawn, we would rise to have a cup of Kona, and then hit the miles of trails through tropical forest. We would jog in and out of vine covered trees, and then out onto the beach along the north shore. We would see mongoose running across the trail and a multitude of tropical birds would “make music” for us as we ran…no I pod required! It was so invigorating!

I really needed this time… It was like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders. I got to remember just how much I love living by the ocean. I surrounded my self with beauty, and the most wonderful and laid back people in the world. I saw rainbows over the ocean, felt tropical rain hit my face and the warm tropical waters glide across my skin. I watched the most skilled surfers take on the waves of Pipeline and Sunset beach…and as they say, “the surf was just going off!”… I combed beaches with my daughter, and watched the most beautiful and graceful dancers, while feasting on Hawaiian food (They really know how to eat in Hawaii!)

I found myself again. I feel at ease, I remember now that I am not just a robot set on auto pilot. I have found peace and soothed my soul.

Hawaii is one of the most magical places I have ever been. I feel at home on the sand and in the water. I have always been a beach girl, and will always be. To my friends and fellow beach kids back home, I miss you guys and wish you the best. To the beautiful people of Hawaii and to our friend Marc, Thank you so much for everything. Oceans of love to you all!!! We can’t wait to come back!
